ERBL learned an important lesson about “political activism” this week.
We thought we’d share it with you.
If you ever want to go to a general discussion about a particular issue in order to derail it, make a scene, and discuss your racist agenda – it’s important that you don’t:
- Boast about your plans to make an unproductive scene on Facebook.
2 . Send nasty racist messages to the hosts containing the rant you’re planning to deliver at the event
3. Make a scene when the hosts – after a nice polite conversation – don’t believe you aren’t planning on making a scene.
The evening, after all, was an evening for people under 30; designed specifically to allow people to talk about Tankers and Vancouver in a safe accepting environment. There was input from all kinds of people, with all kinds of opinions – about tankers: pro-tanker, anti-tanker; pro-Oil Sands; anti- Tar Sands.
The only person there to racialize the discussion was Michelle Tittler.
And the City of Vancouver wisely decided to refuse her a platform.
As you can hear in the video, the crowd definitely knew who she was; and they were disgusted by her.
